This transaction estimates the Mercedes team at £4.6 billion – a record for an F1 team – following the McLaren team were valued at £3.5bn in an adjustment to ownership structure last September. The Austrian executive, who owns one-third of the Mercedes F1 operation, plans to divest a stake approximately five percent. Wolff, aged 53 will remain as team boss and CEO should the deal proceed. Ownership Structure Remaining partners in the team are Mercedes-Benz and industrial group Ineos Group, who each also own one-third of the company. A Mercedes spokesperson said: "We will be making no comment on this. The management structure of Mercedes F1 stays unaltered, and each shareholder are dedicated to continued achievements of the brand in F1." Valuation Growth This arrangement would represent a substantial rise in value of the Mercedes team after Ineos Group acquired its share for £208m in 2022. The rise reflects the growth in valuations of F1 teams in the past few years as a consequence of the growing popularity of Formula 1 globally. This was also seen in the success of the Formula 1 film starring Hollywood star Brad Pitt, which debuted last summer and earned more than $630m (£458 million) at the box office. It is the actor's top-grossing movie and the most successful sports movie ever released. Current Standings The Mercedes team are second in the constructors' championship, trailing McLaren, with three races remaining this season. Mercedes' primary racer George Russell has secured victory in 2 of the 21 grands prix this year and is in fourth place in the individual standings behind McLaren drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, and Red Bull Racing's Max Verstappen. The team secured a record eight consecutive team titles and seven driver championships, six won by Lewis Hamilton and one for Nico Rosberg, from 2014 and 2021.
